American Atheists “Skip Church”

This blog is very controversial and talks about a billboard that promotes Atheist views to the world. It claims that the Christian Christmas is just a bunch of fairytales and it is my belief that this is wrong. This article is taking away from the spirit of Christmas and whether someone is Christian or not it is taking away the fun mystery in believing in something that is not real. They’re taking away not only children’s imaginations, but our own as well. No one religion should be talked down to or shamed because of their beliefs. The holidays are a time for everyone to come together and to be jolly and merry and for at least a little while not worry about anything and just enjoy the very company of your loved ones and be thankful that you are alive and still present. The add may have slight value as it aims to promote the acceptance of all cultures and traditions and not discriminate against anyone. Santa who is the mystical man that brings joy to children all around the world is not a work of the Christian community and this article therefore is taking away from the spirit of the season. I understand the meaning behind this article, but without God or Jesus this holiday becomes a Christmas tree with lights, surrounded by presents. Each individual should have their own view on what the holiday means to them and campaigns should not be putting out the flame on the roaring fire of spirit and love encompassed in the holiday season. Happy holidays to one and to all.

  1. The blog talks about the Christmas season in the eyes of atheists. Every point that the writer talks about are things that I completely agree with. When you look broadly at the idea of Christmas I don’t believe that in present time, people only focus on the religious purpose of the holiday. Rather people view Christmas as a time for bringing family together and strengthening family spirit and love. These events are often very important to most families, and the focus isn’t so much of why there happening but that there happening. But I also I think it is important not to forget the religious background behind the idea of the holiday. Another point which I agree with from the blog is that no religion should ever be judged, every religion should be respected the way that you would wish your own views to be respected.
